The Untold Tale
A tale I tell, I tell no lie,
Of wind and earth, and rainy sky;
Of beast and field, of covered ground,
Of fallen leaf, and river's sound.
A thread of memory I tell,
Of valleys low and barren fell;
Of sweet winter's blustery kiss,
Of sunrise hues and morning's mist.
A whisper caught on faintest air,
Of sparkling falls and twilight fair;
Of dogwood blossoms and rose dew,
Of spring's awake and lark's song new.
A serenade I sing; a lay,
Of meadows bright and sunny day;
Of night's descent, and harvest's cull
Of skies blue and bays gentle lull.
A tale I tell, I tell no lie,
Of wind and earth, and rainy sky;
Of silent hoofbeat's thunder,
Of time spent in unnoticed wonder.

Before me lies an empty void, An abyss wrought of nothingness. I cannot see it’s depth, But I dare not back away.
A crimson stain gathers Underneath where I stand. Flowing like a dying stream, As it drains towards the ocean.
I am alone with my companions, None would dare to follow, To this dark and desolate place That I am well acquainted with.
Grief accompanied me most of the way, Holding my hand with a searing burn As she showed me the one path That I had not yet trodden.
I turned behind To see what I shall leave. Only pain stands by me, Agony by her side.
I shall not miss that pair. They cannot follow me now, But their talons will soon find another; No bitterness do I harbor them.
Wisdom frowns at me from afar, But I have done her no ill turn. Therefore she lets me go, At Compassion’s darkest bidding.
Time passes with a fleeting glance, Offering me all she could; The possibility of hope. I slowly shake my head.
Tis a bitter parting, For she had healed my wounds And knit my bleeding soul, With her quiet sprit.
My gratutude is due her, To the unchanging change, To whom I owe so much, And have not paid a price too dear.
No truer friend could I have had, Towards her, I bring the faintest smile, Bidding her farewell and peace. Sorrow fills her starry eyes.
I cannot bear that sight, So mine eyes sought the abyss Taking comfort in knowing The abyss could take that all away.
A silver droplet silently Falling from a mossy eye. I wait for the quiet splash, But it never comes.
This price I cannot pay, I cannot go, I cannot stay Before me lies an empty void. If only I could surrender to nothingness.

Umm, wow is all I can think of. You have a gift with the pen (keyboard). You do seem to have been in a darker place to write these. But none the less you draw the reader in and take them to that place.

Aramon!!!! *pounces on and hugs tightly* Good to see you here. Some of these were darker...something about the darker places is more poetic, some not so much. The Untold Tale isn't dark, and it's quickly becoming one of my faves. But I'm glad you enjoyed...or at least liked them, lol.

Have you taken what you wanted? I did not refuse. Am I to be discarded? You would not be the first.
Did you want my trust? Here you are. Is it to be broken? You would not be the first.
Did you want my love? Here is my heart. Is it to be forsaken? You would not be the first.
Did you want my loyalty? Here is my bond. Will you be disloyal? You would not be the first.
Did you want my joy? All of it is there. Is it to be turned to pain? You would not be the first.
Did you want my forgiveness? You have it. But you didn’t really want it, did you? You would not be the first.
Did you want my dreams? They’re yours. Are they to be shattered? You would not be the first.
And you wonder why, I do not trust, I do not love, I am not loyal, I have not joy, I do not forgive, I do not dream?

I would say "'Tis pure poetry!!!" But I think that's a lil cliche...I like it. The last one gets across a reasonable point very well. But I think I like the third best. I have a liking for plaintive things...and thus! your poetry I like. Here is one of mine:
If the world is but rhymes
within rhymes
Where then will the poetry
go?
If the world is but beauty
with thorns
Where then shall the red roses
grow?
If the Earth is but wind
and water
What use be the flurries
I see?
If the purpose I need is but
empty
How then shall I ever
be free?
If the world is but dreams
within dreams
Where then will my fantasies
sing?
If the world is but valley
with sorrow
What then shall the happiness
bring?
If the Earth is but death
and darkness
Why should I ever live
there?
If my Saviour is here
with me always
Why then should I ever despair?

I am not your ace of spades Not your fortune already made To win for you every time.
I am not your queen of hearts Not your true love fair or lost To win for you at any cost.
I am not your king of clubs Not your entrance to the pubs To win for you society.
I am not your jack of diamonds Not your trickster of fate To win or your pleasure sate.
I am not your pair of dueces Not your bluff, not your ruses To win for you when you can't.
I am not your set of nines Not your average hand To win for you when I can.
I am not your royal straight Not your earning, not your mate To win for you when you favor.
In fact, I am not in your deck at all. So why then, my friend, Do you count me as if I am?

These poems were all written to practice and play with forms of poetry. I can't even remember the names of those forms, but here are the poems, in all their glory, and they all have the same topic. As you can probably tell, I'm not a big fan of short poems.
Arwen's Doom Grief and tears falling My quiet loss enduring Till the long years fade. The Gift Freed from Destiny, My parting do I embrace, My life I lay down. An Elf's Reflection Immortal are we, They, both life and Halls depart, What paths will they tread? Doomed My breath is shallow, I fight the doom awaiting, It's my curse, my gift. Eru's Gift Their own lives to shape Will Require life unbound. This I give to them. Numenorean Advice Lay down your life and Escape the world's confines; The gift is no curse.
Arwen's Bittersweet Song Sorrow's silence, grief, and silver tears For love I cannot quell. How do I allay Father's fears? Whom shall I bid farewell? Men's doom I choose for good or ill Elfstone's heart I fill... Men's doom I choose Men's doom I choose And I have chosen as I will!
Sorrow's silence, grief, and silver tears With Eldarion I share. The time has come, and now my fears Approach, my love fair. My Aragorn has departed Doom of Man taking him from me... My Aragorn My Aragorn For you my tears flow to the sea.
Sorrow's silence, grief, and silver tears Through misty eyes unfold Each season's blossoms; my time nears. My son ages, growing old. Till my years fade and pass me by 'Neath mallorn leaves and golden sky... Till my years fade Till my years fade O sorrow! How long shall I cry?

Heartbreaking, Durien - well written I say. Nothing tears at the heart like love lost. Tolkien knew that, and so it would seem you know it also.
You have written a lovely piece.
