Yay!! *does first post dance*
*bows deeply to the Seeker and Mother Confessor* I am yours to
command. But first may I request we white out any spoilers in case
curious new readers are lurking about? And let it be known that I am
just starting on the second book, which I rented from the library for
three weeks. I intend to make three weeks my finish reading date, so I
must pace myself.
I find once I start reading I don't want to stop and when I have to I
get grumpy...lol. Anyway, should we copy our convo from the other
thread?

Yes, we can certainly white out spoilers; I know you yourself are one ! I hope you won't be too tempted to look at them *chuckles* Wow, you're going to finish it in three weeks ? It took me a month to read that one * I think* but I did own my own copy...I own all of them ! Yes, do copy our messages from the last thread, Prelate Miah !

*zips back in* Sivan asked: Whose Goodkind and what's Wizard's First Rule about?
Prelate Miah replied: Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series takes the reader into a world of wizards, dragons and magic. Wizard's First Rule
is the first book of the series and tells of a man who risks his life
to save a mysterious lady, who is the only one left of her kind, a
Confessor.
The main character is Richard Cypher, who grew up
in Westland with his father and brother. His mother died in a fire when
he was little. His best friend is a Wizard named Zedd, though for years
Richard didn't know he was a Wizard. Zedd taught Richard everything
about growing up in the woods. Richard was a guide when he saw a woman
running from some men on a trail that he knew well. He helped her
escape, though they were both caught by the men later. The woman had
magic power of her own and with Richard's help was able to disengage
the men, killing them all. She told him how she was sent to find this
one important Wizard to help stop an evil man (who was also a Wizard)
who threatened to take over the world by gaining three magic boxes.
Richard decided to help her and later discovered that his friend was
the Wizard she was looking for. But not anyone could kill the evil man,
known as Darken Rahl. Only the one carrying the Sword of Truth could
kill him, that person is known as The Seeker. Richard becomes the
Seeker and is so named by Zedd. Richard, the woman and the wizard
travel through terrible lands to find the last remaining box before
this Rahl gets a hold of it. But even if he had it he needs a book
called the Book of Counted Shadows to tell him how and which box to
open first, because you can't just open any box or all of them, and you
have to have all of them in possession before you can open the right
box. They are protected by magic.
There are many twists and
turns in the tale and along the way Richard learns many valuable life
lessons. He learns what the Wizards First Rule is because he uses it
against this Darken Rahl. He goes through an incredible journey and
endures some very terrible things. The book is well written and I found
it intriguing right from the start to the very end. Goodkind gives
great description of everything around you, making you feel as if you
are right there. He has humorous parts in the story that make you laugh
and some parts that make you gasp with horror and disgust. Its a
fantasy and in no way did I ever say to myself, "Oh no way! that's
stupid!" like some books. No there are no hobbits, dwarves or elves but
there are other creatures that are very interesting to discover and
learn about. I found his lessons in the book related to real life
things that anyone can understand and use.
IE: Wizard's First
Rule: People are stupid. People are stupid; given proper motivation,
almost anyone will believe almost anything. Because people are stupid,
they will believe a lie because they want to believe it's true, or
because they are afraid it might be true. People's heads are full of
knowledge, facts, and beliefs, and most of it is false, yet they think
it all true. People are stupid; they can only rarely tell the
difference between a lie and the truth, and yet they are confident they
can, and are so all the easier to fool."
It explains more but for now I will leave you this in which to ponder. Wizards First Rule is a story, not a compendium. I won't tell you how it ends because you may just want to find out for yourself
Then Seeker Edan said:
*Grins* I'm really glad you enjoyed it, Miah. If you don't know the other Sword of Truth books to read in order here they are are after Wizard's First Rule :
Stone of Tears
Blood of the Fold
Temple of the Winds
Soul of the Fire
Faith of the Fallen
The Pillars of Creation
Naked Empire
Chainfire
Phantom
Confessor ( last novel of the series that concludes the epic story of Richard and Khalan )
( Debt of Bones, the prequel to Wizard's First Rule about how the Boundaries came up ) Then Confessor Aryn said: Awesome series. Only have Debt of Bones left to read, and it's right
there on my bookshelf. *rubs hands eagerly* I'm just postponing it not
to have the series completely finished. *sniff* It's funny - I could
never stop reading when I started one of those books, and when it was
done it made me all sad cause it meant I was another step closer to the
end. LOL. Then the Seeker Edan said: Hehe, I know you think they're great,
Arnyn; I remember you and I having a long discussion about it a year
ago or so. This is Beren Camlost by the way. I'm postponing it too;
I'm reading Phantom really slowly though I am approaching the end.
When I'm done with Confessor I'm going to be
bawling for quite a while knowing I'll never read about Cara kicking
tail again or having Richard saying something that awes me into
thinking for an hour....or reading about Zedd wanting something to eat
*tears up even know* or or....oh I should stop before I burst into
tears here in the library *chuckles and wipes his wet eyes*.
You know Sam Raimi and Disney are going to put the Sword
of Truth : Wizard's First Rule as a mini-series for ABC, Arnyn ?
Gosh....with all the adult subject matter they should really save that
for a film and leave Disney out of it...I wonder how they will do
this....Terry Goodkind though will be the screenwriter, by the way.
Debt of Bones I wish was longer *sighs*
Then Prelate Miah said: *bites nails* a mini series? Gah! now I must get cable!
I'm
glad then that I am only on my second book. I have forsaken all other
books on my shelf actually. Not interested in them now... I will be
near the local library tomorrow. I think I'll just go in and borrow it
rather than look for it in a second hand shop. What creature frightens
you the most? and how about that mean woman Denna! Gah! And you men
have the audacity to complain how bad you have it! You'd never survive Denna that's for sure!
Then The Seeker Edan said:
|
Ooo,
ooo, you mean you're going to read Stone of Tears, Miah, or was it
another book you're going to be reading ? I love the gar...*grins*
there's another one in Stone of Tears, the second Stone of Tears book
that you'll really like *chuckles*. Denna scared the Mordor out of me
|
And Then we discover Goodkind's Official Site! Where we learn there is a series being made and is due to come out on TV! Find out about the Series Here!See the awesome Movie Trailer Here!
Then Seeker Edan said:
Gahhh
the link isn't working for me *weeps*. I know I can't hear anything on
these college comps until my own at home works but at least I'd be able
to see the footage...I'll keep trying the link, Miah....are you
drooling at Richard ? Kahlan is sooo gorgeous....I always imagined
though Richard and Chase to be a bit stronger and buff and Zedd a
little more older.
But I soooo can't wait for this; I
used to watch Hercules and Xena on tv; Sam Raimi did those shows too so
I know this will be great, especially with Goodkind being heavily
involved. Miah I hope you have cable by November 1st because that's
when the show airs *lol*
Then Prelate Miah said:
|
|
It looks great! and I always pictured Richard as a regular guy, or at
least that is the image Terry gave me. Chase should be a big strong guy
and Zedd, yeah definitely older...but he still looks like a wizard,
lol. The two actors look absolutely great together! The lady playing
Kahlan is very beautiful and I LOVE her dress! I must draw the two of
them...*gets excited*....Ooooh
there is no doubt that the series will be a hit! are you going to sign
up to be a member on the forum? I best be getting that cable happening
quick!
|
Then Seeker Edan said: We can sign up as a member ? lol I didn't know that at all because
those pics hit me and I couldn't do anything else except stare agape  ;
does it cost anything to register ? Because if not I will. I would
love to see you draw Kahlan and also the Sword of Truth....*grins* what
about Wizard's Keep ? I think it was in Wizard's First Rule that we
read about it in Aydindril but it's been two years so I've forgotten...
Prelate Miah says: |
|
no cost to be a member on the forum. What name will you go by so I can
look for you? I'll have to think on it some more but right now I'm
heading out!
|
Seeker Edan says:
I'll probably be....Warren Rahl06 ! *Winks* Warren is an affable wizarding character that appears in the Sword of Truth books starting with the second novel, Stone of Tears. And no, Warren is not a Rahl....I just want that to be my last name on there
Then Prelate Miah said: *runs back in* I got it! I got it!!! *hugs borrowed book* This book is even bigger than the last one! and I thought that was long, lol..... not long enough...
So...Warren
Rahl eh?....Ooooh speaking of Rahl... (not to give away spoilers or
anything) but that discovery at the end WFR blew me away!!
And then Seeker Eden says: Yay, yay !! Ohhh, I can't wait til
you're a bit into it so we can talk about it. I really like that
cover; it should look about fifteen or so years old, the style but I
know they're coming out with more covers for them because the series is
coming out.
Allll the Sword of Truth books range from six hundred
to like eight hundred pages, Miah *chuckles* but I'm glad that the page
count doesn't daunt you like some people. The only thin Sword of Truth book there is is the one that Arnyn is reading, Debt of Bones *nooo, unfortunately Aidie isn't in there *, the prequel to Wizard's First Rule.... Debt of Bones is like...what, Arnyn, 120 pages ? lol.
Warren Rahl 06 will be my name on there when I register there
today yeah and Warren you'll meet in the book you got. That surprise
ending blew me away, too !! Gah, wasn't Darken so evil ? What he did
with that kid Carl almost made me wanna' puke

If you like LoTR you will like this series Marak, though everyone's tastes vary. Anyway I was checking out the Wiki site about the series and they have Craig Parker named for the actor playing Darken Rahl!! Craig Parker of course is the actor that played Haldir in LoTR!

Marak, you must go to the bookstore pronto ! *Lol* And if you do like Wizard's First Rule I'd send you a care package with the whole saga for Christmas, bro, seriously ! I hope we will see your comments soon about it, I do think you'll enjoy it, buddy. Then we'll make you Seeker Marak on the list *lol* and I'll put myself as First Wizard *chuckles*
What...Haldir as Darken Rahl, Miah ? I know he's a handsome dude and all and can kick butt in a fight but there's no evil spark in him at all, I think...well, then again he did play a good elf so *lol*. Let's hope he can play the sinister Rahl well. By the way, the guy who's playing Chase was some guy in the prequel Star Wars movies; I think it's Captain Typho who was Padme's bodyguard in Episodes II, III.

And Marak...I need to tell you...there are very few fantasy creatures in the Sword of Truth, for instance no dwarves or elves though there are monsters and this being called a Confessor....in fact the Confessor is second major character, Kahlan Amnell.
A Confessor was created by Wizards to make an evil person tell the truth about something; all it takes is a touch and not only will they tell the Confessor the truth but they also fall into a deep affection for her...which is why they tell the whole truth. But yeah...the enemy in the series is Man itself, an evil empire that wants to conquer the world.

No, Craig Parker has played a bad guy before. I can't wait to see his get up! So after Marak reads the first book he will be the Seeker? cool! but what is a Prelate again? one in training? training as Confessor? I could be a Mord Sith like Denna and wup you all....hehehehe... Ouch! Nah...I don't know, I don't think I could be that mean...but then some men....hmmm.... *gets ideas*Oh that little princess was evil eh Bear? What did you think of the other wizard Giller?

You're probably a better Mord-Sith than you would be the Prelate *chuckles*. You'll meet her in the book; she's looks over the Citadel of Light in the Old World where they train wizards. You have a dark side, Miah *lol*.
I hate Violet and I'm glad Richard gave her what-for ! You'll see her again down the road *grins*. Giller was a real nice guy and I love Rachel ( "Get in the box." "What ?" "I said get in the box !" ), she is so adorable and I wish she was in the series more *sighs and shakes his head* and Chase, too.

Notable Differences from the book:
Dennee traveled with her sister Kahlan Amnell in order to find the Wizard of the First Order, rather than having died along with all the other Confessors long before.
Darken Rahl's hair is portrayed as black, rather than blonde.
A red dragon is not seen flying overhead at the beginning.
Richard doesn't grow up knowing who Zedd is, although he does consider him a friend and somewhat of a mentor despite being a little odd.
Richard is brought the Book of Counted Shadows by Kahlan, in the book his father has him memorize it and then destroy it as a child.
George Cypher is alive.

*Mouth drops* Whoa, you're saying Darken's hair is black in the series ? Geeze...they probably did that to more deeply portray his evilness; I rather it be blonde like in the book, there's nothing like a handsome or fair evil person ( Just wait til you get to Nicci, Naira ).
Yeah, Terry said he was going to keep George around for a while in the beginning so we can see him getting the book....but I guess now they rearranged it so Kahlan can bring it to him...I wonder how they'll fit in George....I wonder if they will even write him off in the show.

I just hope I can get my sis to tape each episode for me. The thought of missing out really irks me *takes shade darker blue*
First Episode: Nov 1
Kahlan and sister Dennee attempt to get to the Boundry to go through at give Richard the Book of Counted Shadows. On their journey they must escape from The Quad, a band of soldiers ruled by Darken Rahl. When Dennee is shot, she urges Kahlan to proceed, giving her the book. As Kahlan leaves her sister, she enters the boundry. Four of the Quad follow after her. In Hartland, Woodsguide Richard Cypher spots Kahlan being chased by the Quad. MORE COMING SOON.
And how queer is this? Stephen Tolkin is one of the writers for this particular episode

Oohhh, it was a two-hour pilot, Naira ! lol Two hours ! It'll come back again on sunday at ten i believe, have to check that site again where we put in our zip code; i'll add that to the OP.
Ohhhh, I just couldn't resist putting thir pics up ( I could have from Faith of the Fallen book cover but I thought it would be better if i showed Kahlan and Richard in flesh and blood ). Kahlan is such a babe, she's one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen *Long whistle* and I hope something falls out but since this is ABC I don't think we'll be seeing very restricted steaminess between Richard and Kahlan.
I'm very happy with the woman who plays her - she's very much like Kahlan. I don't know how you will feel the slow motion for the battle scenes, Miah....I know I don't like a lot of slow motion when it comes to fighting scenes, but that's just me, but they have a lot of them in the series it looks like.

I have seen the trailors already and zipcodes don't work, they are meant for the USA. Would be lovely if the series were displayed on the site, than other ppl in the world could watch them as well. Not able to watch is not fun and irritates.

Yeah Beren! Canadians don't have ZiP codes, we have Postal Codes (which is a combo of letters and numbers) But, luckily, we do get ABC channel *whew*
I'm sorry for those who can't see this show. *hugs Aikari* Tiana would really like to watch it too but she can't! I think I will go to Goodkind's site and ask him when and if the series will be made for those on thither shores.

Eeek ! I didn't know, Aikari ; I hope Miah will be able to get some feedback from the Goodkind site so that you and Ti and she.
*Hugs Miah* I should have remembered that, once having a Canadian girlfriend *chuckles*. Make you sure you tell us what you find out, m'dear !

Oooh, been watching the series and despite some minor things I still think its a good entertaining show. I read the first book and it was wonderful! I can't wait to get the second book, I get really absorbed in it. I love the characters, the world they live in and all the cute and nasty creatures!

OMG!!!!! yea, im reading the books still kinda stuck on the *boring* book(soul of the fire) so ive been told. I did end up watching every show so far in the series and wasn't impressed with some of the things they did with it but heh, why should i be grumpy about it, still an awesome series. Servy on the other hand doesn't like it that much anymore i don't think since they changed so much of it. Everytime i watch an episode with her around all i hear is grumbling and 'WHAAAT'. It gets rather entertaining to see how she reacts to some of their changes . I just can't believe you guys made a thread about this

Bah, im not deleting my post and i forgot i can't edit it anymore lol. Also Aikari if no one has given you any help on the topic you can check out a website called Ninjavideo.net, that is where i watch the episodes i've missed on tv. now they do have other stuff ont here too and it depends on your own personal opinion, some wouldn't liek the site, others don't care. I personally am one who doesn't care lol.
